Does your inbox fill up every Tuesday with Kickstarter emails? Well, mine does - so I decided to start writing my thoughts on new tabletop gaming Kickstarters every Wednesday. Keep in mind, most of these are based on initial impressions and looking at the Kickstarter video.
Wow, I didn't start out planning on this post to be about supporting a bunch of creators. There must be something in the water...and it's awesome content, so let's get started!
AcadeCon 2023. Dayton's own 3-day Tabletop Convention
Every year, The RPG Academy podcast throws a RPG convention in Dayton, Ohio. I actually was able to go to one back in 2017. It was where I played one of the best RPG sessions that I have ever played in. It is a smaller, more focused convention, with a wide variety of different RPG systems available to play. With the size of the con, it is one of those cons where it is easy to make new friends with people interested in similar games. Plus, there's all kinds of different podcasters that love to show up, so if you listen to RPG content you are very likely to see (or hear) someone you recognize. It's only $45 for the 3 day badge, or cheaper ($25) if you are a GM willing to host 2 games during the weekend. I would totally attend more if I could get some people to keep me company in the car on the 8 hour drive to Dayton.
The Technomancers - 3D Printable Models
Honestly, I feel like I need to showcase this campaign because it was sandwiched between like 3-4 slutty fantasy/anime girl campaigns. Instead of the awkward type of "cannons", we've got some badass technomancers with a giant cannon on his back. Perfect for those "modern day, but with magic" type of RPG settings. Or I guess technically it could be an old artificer for a fantasy themed RPG. Either way, for $6-9 (nice), you can get the STLs for these models and use them in your games. There's also some addons with other models, such as orcs, dragons, and even a lizardfolk model. So if you want some well crafted models for cheap to print, then I suggest giving this campaign a glance.
Growing Our Family! - Our Family Plays Games 2023 Campaign
Our Family Plays Games is a standout board game YouTube channel that is hard to miss - mostly because of Mik! He's one of the few people I've met that are as loud/louder than I am. Mostly because he and his family are so passionate about games! (Apparently, they play them) Mik and Starla even appeared on an episode of Boards and Swords, which you can find here. They've reached the point that every content creator has felt where they are growing but need to expand equipment/space/etc in order to do that. If you check out their Kickstarter campaign, they have a bunch of different offerings, including promos for games like Catan, Clank!, Star Realms, and Tidal Blades. If you want to help creators devoted to bringing diversity awareness to the hobby, then OFPG is for you!
The Loreweaver GM Screen
I'm a sucker for a cool GM screen - even though I just have the basic D&D ones. Every time I see people show off the cool screens that they have made, I always stop and go "Oooooo". This already six-time-funded-over campaign features a vegan leather lined magnetic screen with lots of different attachments. Of course there's the initiative tracker along the top, which is pretty standard for these types of screens, but you can even attach a dice tower to one side and a white board to the other so you can make all kinds of quick notes during your session. For $59, you get the base screen alone with a couple of initiative trackers - which is about the same price as some of the more commercialized options I've seen out there. From there, you can go upwards with all kinds of addons and customizations to personalize your screen.
Skyjacks: Courier's Call - Season 3
This blog post will probably have the most cross promotional links than anything I've ever done. James D'Amato, the creator of this campaign, was *also* on Boards & Swords and also on one of our Dirtbags of Holding RPG sessions. Skyjacks is the extention of his very popular "Campaign" podcast. Skyjacks: Courier's Call is a spin-off designed to be more family friendly and open to more people. The game takes place in a world called "Spéir", a "folkpunk fantasy" world filled with airships traveling through the sky. The heroes of this actual play are teenagers traveling the world on said airships delivering parcels (and of course getting into hijinx). Are you a parent looking to get your kids interested in RPGs? Check out this podcast and help support their 3rd season, and then just smile when they come to you wanting to know more about RPGs.
